One can only hope her county’s taxpayers don’t get stuck with the bill. They can’t all be supporting her, after all.

There was actually a pro-marriage equality protest outside of her office this week. An interesting question is whether the County’s liability insurance will cover egregious dereliction of duty like this.

The clerk needs to be fired. As a public official, she doesn’t have the right to choose whether or not to do her job based on her “personal beliefs”.

In Kentucky County Clerks are elected officials, so she can’t be fired. She could, however, be arrested for refusing to do her official duty. Its a misdemeanor.

I taught public high school for over 30 years, and during that time, I taught students who were atheists, Hindus, and Muslims. If I had refused to teach these students, I would have been out of a job faster than a jack rabbit could sprint. These clerks don’t seem to realize that their salaries are paid with tax funds. Every citizen in their counties pay taxes. She doesn’t discriminate when she cashes her paychecks. She doesn’t try to separate the taxes paid by LGBTQ citizens and others who don’t endorse her particular brand of Christianity. She just cashes the check. Since this is the case, she should issue the marriage licenses. According to the article at the link, she doesn’t have to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies, but she is bound by law to issue marriage licenses to all who want them.

Irony that the very same people (typically Fox News type Evangelical Libertarian Republicans) who decry “government oppression” have no problem using their official government offices as tools of oppressing other people and forcing their own narrow agenda on entire groups and populations.

In other words, cretins.

Detroit Local Powers First EV Charging Road in North America The road, about a mile from Local 58's hall, uses rubber-coated copper inductive-charging coils buried under the asphalt that transfer power to a receiver pad attached to a car's underbelly, much like how a phone can be charged wirelessly. ...
