Check out the comments on the article. Most people seem to think he did nothing wrong, as if bullet proof vests and AR-15s make perfect sense in a crowded civilian area like a shopping mall.

Nothing brings out the RWNJs like an article about guns. Even at liberal sites like HuffPo (where conservatives are usually vastly outnumbered), you’ll see the gun fetishists dominate the comment boards for any article dealing with guns.

Apparently when these gun “enthusiasts” aren’t shooting or stroking their guns, they’re writing about them. Only in America, nowhere else in the developed world does this happen. We should be ashamed as a nation.

The man in question in this case was a soldier and by all accounts he did not act with malicious intent. The weapon he carried was one he wanted to be photographed with at a photo shoot inside the mall. Here’s the updated story.

This was a stupid mistake, not a would be active shooter. Please update your page to reflect this.

You’re defending him? The article didn’t say he was an active shooter, you’re totally off point there. What he did scared the hell out of a bunch of people—totally unnecessarily—so much so that stores closed and the cops were called.

Can you honestly say you wouldn’t worry about your own safety or that of others (like maybe your kids) if you saw this man nearby at your local mall? At the very least, he’s an irresponsible douchebag.

The post doesn’t need an update. Its point was not that he was a mass killer, just a stupid dickhead.

“Army sergeant who was planning to take photos in military gear …
Police said Wolfinger was carrying an AR-15 assault rifle, military ballistic panel carrier and multiple high-capacity rifle magazine when he was taken into custody. ”

What I don’t see in the article is if he was in uniform. I think not.

If you see a man with the military gear as described above wandering thru the mall. That is concerning. If he’s wearing a uniform with that gear, you go up to him and thank him for his service.

I don’t think he should be described as a “mall gunman”, which is a term used for those who go into a mall and start shooting. “Rifle Carrying Clueless Idiot” is a proper description of this fellow.

“Mall gunman” is wrong? He’s a man in a mall with a gun, so what’s the problem? Seems pretty straightforward to me…didn’t call him a shooter.

Either title you give him, the point is that he was terrifying people, all for the sake of playing soldier in the most inappropriate place to do so. I ask again, would you not quickly move away from someone packing an AR-15 while wearing a bullet proof vest in a shopping mall? Especially if you had someone with you whose safety you cared about?

No, I wouldn’t run, not with where my life is currently. I might help someone else get away, but I wouldn’t flee if it were just me.
