It was conservatives who were largely against interracial marriage in the 1960s. Does that mean that they’re still against interracial marriage?
A huge, very emphatic NO. Conservatives at the time were against interracial marriage. Conservatives get unfairly portrayed as unchanging in our views, but as the chart above indicates, that is clearly not so. In 2012, over 54% of Republican voters in Mississippi - one of the most conservative states in the nation - believed that interracial marriage should remain legal. Only 29% believed it should be illegal.
So you see? The GOP is totally not racist at all.
