Book Review: Becoming Westerly - Surfline
Not your typical surf story
Becoming Westerly spans Peter Drouyn’s life, from his first sexual encounter at age eleven or twelve with a girl named Phoebe, to his travels around the world as a flamboyant, womanizing pro in the Seventies; his invention of man-on-man surfing at the inaugural ‘77 Stubbies Pro at Burleigh (his greatest contribution to the sport), to his gender reassignment surgery at Bangkok’s ultra swanky Yanhee Hospital, where dollish nurses glide through glistening white hallways wearing skimpy uniforms and rollerblades.
