Yep. They are still building houses and apartments here in Las Vegas, completely ignoring the fact that we are rapidly running out of water. But, hey, why worry about something that hasn’t happened yet. ///

I really hate this city, but stuck here for another 16 years until my husband can retire.

When the Colorado River compact was drawn up (along with water usage allotments following the construction of the Hoover Dam and the creation of Lake Mead and Lake Powell (behind the Glen Canyon Dam)), it based its projections on what turned out to be one of the wettest periods in the history of the region. Now that the region is back to or below the historical average for rainfall/snowpack, the water flow has subsided to such an extent that everyone is scrambling to stay ahead of the drought.

That includes building an additional water intake below the current intake elevation, allowing water to flow to Las Vegas for a few more years. But the Southwest at large faces huge pressure to conserve and reduce water usage. And in the end, it will mean that the region will have to consider limiting new development unless additional water conservation efforts are taken.
