Well, it’s the only region that the government is constitutionally allowed to support.

Gotta love HBO shows railing against taxpayer subsidies after HBO relocated Veep from Maryland to California because they got more taxpayer money for shooting there.

Cities and states fall over each other to spend taxpayer money on billionaires who demand ever more lavish palaces that they could otherwise afford to build themselves.

And even where the billionaires build the stadiums themselves, they often involve taxpayer funds - in tax breaks, tax deferrred or tax free municipal bonds, PILOTs, land swaps, eminent domain, etc.

It’s all in the name of economic development, despite the fact that study after study shows that there isn’t the economic development there. It simply flows into the coffers of the companies behind the sports franchises.

Even where the stadium is owned by the municipality, often the concession revenues go to the team, not the municipality.

For some municipalities, the outlay for stadiums can’t be justified.

I firmly believe that no taxpayer money should be spent on behalf of any privately owned team and that any politician that votes in favor of such expenditure should be impeached or recalled.

re: #2 Romantic Heretic

That’s religion, not region.

Damn you autocorrect.
