A tornado destroyed homes and injured people as it cut a path east across Miami and Cass counties Friday evening.
The tornado touched down in Miami County about 6:30 p.m., wiping out a few homes in a sparsely populated area west of Hillsdale Lake. About 7 p.m., it touched down again near Freeman in Cass County, according to the National Weather Service. The storm then moved east into Missouri.
In Cass County, the tornado damaged Cass Midway High School northwest of Freeman, breaking windows and damaging the bleachers and press box around the football field, said Lt. Kevin Tieman of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. At least a dozen homes were damaged, but no injuries were reported.
