A 12 year old Minnesota Student calls out Ben Carson
A 12-year-old Eden Prairie boy reiterated Thursday that he’s not about to let GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson dash his dream of running for president someday.
Yusuf Dayur’s plucky reaction to Carson’s assertion that no Muslim should be president first appeared in an online video earlier this week. “Obama already broke that black boundary,” Yusuf said in the video. “I will break that Muslim boundary.”
In an interview Thursday, the seventh-grader said he’s wanted to be president since he was 3 years old. He asked his mother, Shukri, to film him after he heard Carson’s comment. The video has been a hit on Facebook, where it now has more than 160,000 views.
The boy looks straight at the camera as he addresses Carson: “What if someone told you that you couldn’t become president because of your color? What if someone told you that you couldn’t become president because of your race? What if someone told you that you couldn’t become president because of your faith? And that’s what you did to me.”
Yusuf says he plans on running for president in 2040. Once elected, he said, he would put more money into education and health care instead of spending it on wars.
“We should help the refugees,” he said. “We’re in debt, and we are wasting all our money.”
For now, Yusuf is keeping up with the candidate debates. He has some reactions: For instance, he said GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s facial expressions are childish.
If he met Carson in person, Yusuf said, he would educate him about Islam. “We’re American citizens, just like him,” he said.
