ILLINOIS: Aurora Township GOP Censures U.S. Senator Mark Kirk - Illinois Review
AURORA - Because of Mark Kirk’s votes this week against defunding Planned Parenthood, the Aurora Township Republican Organization voted to censure the Senator and will not encourage support for nor include information about the Republican incumbent in their March 15th GOP Primary campaign literature.
The Aurora Township GOP Executive Board unanimously agreed to censure Senator Kirk for not upholding the IL GOP platform and being the only Republican in the U.S. Senate to side with Democrats twice last week against defunding Planned Parenthood.
“We warned Senator Kirk in the first censure passed a few weeks ago that he was jeopardizing our organization’s support if he did not vote in a way that upheld the IL GOP platform,” Aurora Township GOP secretary Jennifer Nevins told Illinois Review.
. .
One or two have told the Aurora GOP that the censure will hand the election over to Democrat Tammy Duckworth, but that was before Oswego’s James Marter announced his candidacy this week. If Marter, a businessman who has never held office before, gets on the GOP primary ballot, Illinois Republicans will have a choice on March 15th.
