Camp Liberty, housing the Iranian opposition in Baghdad, Iraq, was deadly rocket attacked at the eve of October 29. This attack leads to death of 23 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) and many others injuries with three in critical condition. The attack is classified as mass destruction and the recompenses were estimated to more than 10 billion dollars in an online conference by Mr. Abrishamchi, National council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), Peace and security Commission Chairman Mr. Mehdi Abrishamchi. To probe the reasons that why Iran resorted to this inhumane attack, one must look back and review the issue in a more truthful view.
The strong and sober coalition of Arab countries in Yemen against Tehran Ayatollah’s fundamentalist meddling and infiltration within these countries was formed at the beginning of this year. Tehran, inflicting heavy human and logistic losses in Yemen, had to retreat and lose its footsteps in this country. Set back in Yemen and the loss Maliki as prime minister who was conducting the snooping political lines ordered by the Mullahs in Iraq and other countries, made Iran desperately in need of Bashar AL-Assad to stay on power more than ever before.
At the same time the increasing and astonishing advances of Syrian freedom fighters had introduced such heavy blows to the Bashar’s throne that his crash was expected very soon. Thus, too weak to help his mannequin, Iran had to yield to a coalition with Moscow. This has put Iran in a more isolated position in the region despite the handshakes offered by the West in the Vienna talks on Syria.
At the same time, following the nuclear deal with the 5+1 countries as a dreadful set back of this regime, Iran has been inflicted to numerous internal crises whether within the ruling factions or the Iranian society evolving in daily and nationwide protests in various cities in Iran.
Considering the impasses Iran’s tyranny has faced, would offer a reasonable clue that why Iran chose this timing to attack its main opposition group spread throughout the world but mainly concentrated in Camp Liberty.
The United Nations and the United States have insured the security of the residents of camp liberty according to the International laws. The persistence of such deadly attacks against these refugees alarms the international community regarding their commitments towards conventional rules and principals. The inaction of the United States and the United Nations towards the protection of these defenseless refugees will not only endanger their lives but also slain the international human rights values at the altar of appeasement. It’s time to end the silence and inaction to save these values and morals as well as lives.
