UK to Trump: Sorry Old Bean But No
So Trump’s examples of cities with policing no-go zones included London, much to the surprise of police and citizens in London and everywhere.
He has also, notoriously, called to ban Muslim immigration.
PM David Cameron called the remarks “divisive, unhelpful and quite simply wrong.”
Chancellor George Osborne called Trump “profoundly wrong.”
Boris Johnson has called the comments “ridiculous”:
“As a city where more than 300 languages are spoken, London has a proud history of tolerance and diversity and to suggest there are areas where police officers cannot go because of radicalisation is simply ridiculous.”
“I think Donald Trump is clearly out of his mind if he thinks that’s a sensible way to proceed. You can’t ban people going to the US in that way, or indeed to any country. What he’s doing is playing the game of the terrorists and those who seek to divide us. That is exactly the kind of reaction they hope to produce. When Donald Trump says there are parts of London that are no-go areas, I think he is betraying a quite stupefying ignorance that makes him frankly unfit to hold the office of the president of the United States. I would invite him to come and see the whole of London and take him round the city, except that I wouldn’t want to expose Londoners to any unnecessary risk of meeting Donald Trump.”
So that’s the word from London.
Trump already has his critics in the UK, because he is a brash arsehole and more specifically following his steamrolling of local and national objections to his Trump golf and hotel extravaganzapalooza on a Scottish nature reserve. He also, as he is quick to point out, ought to have some political allies here. But it seems they want nothing to do with him now.
Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, near Trump’s development, found his position “wholly incompatible” with its ethos and values and stripped him of his honorary degree.
Scottish First Minister NIcola Sturgeon has also let him go from his role as Business Ambassador.
…a Scottish government spokeswoman said Mr Trump’s “recent remarks have shown he is no longer fit to be a business ambassador for Scotland”. BBC
Trump is replying that we should all just have an orgy with him in the middle the sexy Jesus but a rapist and no Muslims:
“The UK politicians should be thanking me.”
And he added in a tweet: “The United Kingdom is trying hard to disguise their massive Muslim problem. Everybody is wise to what is happening. Very sad. Be honest.”
The above critics are right-leaning, with the exception of Nicola Sturgeon. It is interesting to note that he is now so deadly toxic to Bibi Netanyahu that he has had to backtrack on an earlier statement that he would soon be visiting Israel. I agree with Bibi Netanyahu on something. My descent into madness is about complete.
