Texas State Rep Candidate Comes Out in Support of Independence (actually BOTH candidates)
This is a Followup to these pages:

Texas GOP Official Wants Secession on the Primary Ballot - Houston Chronicle
As I commented on the latter string:
Back in June, Politico detailed the Kremlin propaganda machine’s nascent interest in this crackpot movement. Some of the Russian nationalists even suggested providing weapons and money to the secessionist kooks. Now, amazingly, we have a huge upsurge of interest from the usual suspects on the Putin-worshipping American right. Go figure.
Dwight Eisenhower (a Texas native btw) must be turning over in his grave.
Actually, BOTH District 84 (Lubbock) candidates seem to be sympathetic to secession though incumbent John Frullo gives a discreet nod to the practical difficulties.
It is worth noting that these two are not fringe dwelling kooks in the context of Lubbock GOP politics. Kooks they are, but very much mainstream kooks. This is the Texas GOP in the 21st century. As the Texas Nationalist Movement sees it:
Jim Landtroop, former State Representative in District 85, made a strong statement on independence in his current bid for office.
Former Representative Jim Landtroop announced that he’s running for the District 84 seat on Monday. Landtroop represented District 85 in the Texas legislature from 2010 to 2012, but he lost a re-election bid when the districts were redrawn. In an interview with KCBD News in Lubbock, Landtroop was asked about the issue of Texas secession. Landtroop’s was strong and very clear.I will fall on the sword for Texas’ right to govern themselves. So I am open to any measure or means necessary in order to do that.
His opponent’s response wasn’t nearly as clear, although he didn’t rule it out.
Rep. John Frullo had this to say.Secession is one of those things that we all like to talk about, we dream about we feel that we can do better individually as Texans and as well as a state if we didn’t have Washington D.C. out there helping us. So that’s the exciting part if you look into the reality it becomes a lot more complex.
I can see it now:
Immigration official: “I’m sorry but your application for refugee status has been declined. You can’t come here.”
Refugee: “But why? I am a law abiding person with good job skills, and I have to go somewhere.”
Immigration official: “It’s because of where you’re from. The place is infested with violent fanatics who wave guns in the street, enslave women, and indoctrinate the young with crazed superstitions.”
Refugee: “But I’m not one of them. I left Texas to get away from people like that.”
