I’m afraid I share the skepticism of the people in the article on whether the perps will receive an unbiased trial.

I actually surprised that they found Israelis behind it. Everyone I know who lives there was convinced it was an inter-gang rivalry. All the signs were there, especially the incredibly weird graffiti; it made no sense either politically or religiously. But as to the couple’s sentiments, those are pure projection. It is not Israel that honors terrorists, naming streets after them, calling them martyrs & handing out sweets when they commit a crime. Everyone saw Israel’s reaction, & this was a widely publicized manhunt. They’re going to throw the book at these people.

Of course. If you ask right-wingers, they’re never to blame. Too bad there was never any evidence for that specious conspiracy theory.

All the signs were there,

Yeah, um, no, there were no such signs.

especially the incredibly weird graffiti; it made no sense either politically or religiously.

Because never before had Jewish terrorists committed price-tag attacks and left corresponding graffiti. Uh huh.

But as to the couple’s sentiments, those are pure projection. It is not Israel that honors terrorists, naming streets after them, calling them martyrs & handing out sweets when they commit a crime.

Not that it would excuse the behavior of many Palestinians, but Israel does honor some of its terrorists.

Wow, so that’s what you were going with, Flavia? You know, I like you, but you have a HUGE blind spot when it comes to Israel. If I don’t get to engage in apologia for Islamic terrorism, then you don’t get to engage in it for Jewish terrorism. I know it’s embarrassing & it sucks, but ignoring it or denying its existence doesn’t make it go away.

But as to the couple’s sentiments, those are pure projection. It is not Israel that honors terrorists, naming streets after them, calling them martyrs & handing out sweets when they commit a crime.

You do realize that some of us follow the news from Israeli sources, not just American ones (and not just left-leaning ones), right? The price-tag terrorism of the hilltop youth has been going on for a long time now, as has as the ideology that drives them. As for celebrating, how about the party at Baruch Goldstein’s grave celebrating the Hebron massacre, or more recently the wedding party with people dancing, waving guns and stabbing the photo of the baby that was burned to death? Do you want me to go look through my bookmarks for more?

Everyone saw Israel’s reaction, & this was a widely publicized manhunt.

Israel’s general reaction was horror, but as mentioned above, not every Israeli’s reaction was civilized or commendable. Even you yourself said at the beginning of your comment that you & others were willing to believe it was some sort of false flag attack.

They’re going to throw the book at these people.

As they should. If convicted, do you suppose their families’ homes will be destroyed as well, like the homes of Palestinian terrorists? Somehow I doubt it.

Having now read more of the wingnut Duma terror apologia at Arutz Sheva and elsewhere, they argue that since the words “revenge” and “long live King Messiah” (the latter traditionally associated with Chabad) were left instead of the words “price tag”, this “proves” that these were Arab fakers who didn’t know the politico-religious context, blah blah blah.

Except this argument by itself exposes the ignorance of those who make it. Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh, whose religious writings, denigrating non-Jews and praising Baruch Goldstein, are an inspiration to many of the “hilltop youth”, is a Chabad rabbi, and his teachings specifically include this:

teachings about the mystical value of spontaneous revenge attacks by ‘the simple Jew’, who acts upon his feelings of righteous indignation without prior reflection.
