GOP Attacks Trump; Discovers He’s Really Sebastian Shaw
In the wake of yesterday’s post (and thanks for all the kind words & encouragement, folks), and innumerable other pieces on the no-longer-veiled panic attacks by the GOP Establishment (acronym: GOPe) on Trump, comes the After-Action Review. And it ain’t pretty. In fact, it’s about as bad as the news can get.
It turns out that Donald Trump is the real-world political equivalent of X-Men supervillain Sebastian Shaw.
No, not the Nazi concentration camp sadistic psycho conducting experiments on helpless children part (although some hysterical commenters will no doubt draw a parallel between Trump’s dark&ugly comments on Muslims/Mexicans/women/everyone but Tea Partiers). The part where attacking Trump only makes him stronger.
For the non-comic book nerds, who have also resisted the siren song of Marvel’s hit X-men movie franchise, the Sebastian Shaw character is 1) a rich, depraved billionaire, who 2) has egotistical dreams of world domination, and 3) absorbs attacks directed against him, and can then release that energy back at the attacker.
Sebastian Shaw is one of the more interesting villians, because you can’t simply punch him into submission. You can’t use any of the traditional methods of defeating a villain, because he just laughs and then turns your own energy against you.
It’s supervillain aikido, and the GOP has never faced anything remotely like this in its existence.
Check out what former GOP chair Michael Steele says:
The backlash that I noted here yesterday, and that our gracious host promoted, is real and it insulates Trump against these kinds of attacks. We saw the stirrings of it months ago, when he attacked Fox hostess Megyn Kelly, and instead of that causing him to flame out as he broke Reagan’s 11th Commandment, he emerged stronger than ever.
And now, we’ve gotten to the point where Trump is beyond the power of the GOPe to stop. Nikki Haley charged the hill, and now she’s taking fire from every quarter. Ingraham, Breitbart, Limbaugh, the entire RWNJ blogosphere …
At this point @nikkihaley should just tell us who put her up to this.— Laura Ingraham (@IngrahamAngle) January 13, 2016

Each step along the path, as the GOPe fanned itself and shied away from direct confrontation, letting Trump grow & solidify his support, it became ultimately impossible for the same old-same old strategies to work.
At this point, the GOPe has to ask itself: What’s next? I don’t think we can get James Purefoy to freeze Trump in place while someone squishes an iron coin through his frontal lobes. Although I’m guessing if we Tweet it enough as a strategy Jeb!’s skunkworks team will start looking into it…
