How many variations on his name and his families names is he supposed to buy up? What if they aren’t available because someone else already has? That site name was never used by Jeb! or his campaign, it’s just Trump crowing about made up bullshit again.

Real Jeb! site is here where it has been since beginning of 2015…

The really devious move would be to buy up the site and start Google-bombing it, a la the way that Dan Savage did with Santorum.

There are far, far worse things that Trump could do. And yes, the common usage of his name - jebbush.com - should have been bought up. With as much money as he has at his command, this is really an idiotic error. It’s less than $10 at GoDaddy, fer crissakes.

News of the redirect wasn’t tweeted by Trump as his Twitter handle is @RealDonaldTrump not @P0TUSTrump, and the redirect has been happening and noted since at least early December 2015. The tweet you posted is from early January, and @P0TUSTrump doesn’t claim to be the real Trump. No one seems to know who’s behind the account. According to Snopes:

Ultimately, it was true jebbush.com redirected to Donald Trump’s web site. But Trump didn’t brag about the redirect on Twitter, nor was he likely responsible for it. Finally, it didn’t appear Bush’s campaign ever maintained a web site at jebbush.com for any parties to specifically “take over.” It wasn’t clear who specifically registered the domain, set up the redirect to Trump’s site, or why they did so. […]

snopes.com

Additionally, a whois lookup shows the creation date for the domain as 19-nov-1997, so it’s unlikely that it was ever allowed to expire—at least not past the grace & redemption periods or it would have been dropped from the registry. Once a registration is deleted from the registry, any subsequent registration would list the creation date of the new registration, not the original one.

Looks like someone has been sitting on that domain for close to 20 years. Jeb’s first run for office was in 1994 (he lost, and the web wasn’t a big thing yet). His second run was in 1998, one year after the domain was registered, when he ran for (and won) the Florida governorship—by then the web was definitely a thing. It appears someone has been very patient. This can’t be blamed on his web team as they couldn’t have registered a domain name that was already taken.

The potential of this story is funnier than the reality. Viewed through my scope of Donald’s campaign as a future “reality” show, it’s just a gesture… but yes, he is a grand troll.

And whatever else he is, Jeb Bush is a .gov. Maybe we should be glad he doesn’t consider himself .commercial? Really though, someone in his staff should have bought that site for a redirect.
