Waukee School Board Directs Staff to Lead Pledge of Allegiance
Ladies and gentlemen, my state.
A Register survey of Des Moines metro schools shows Dowling Catholic is the only high school whose students say the Pledge of Allegiance every day. The pledge is said at all area elementary schools. While some middle and high school classrooms may choose to say it, there are no other districtwide policies at those levels.
David Cunningham, board vice president, was the first Monday to chime in with a definitive “yes” to saying the pledge every day. He argued that the Pledge of Allegiance must be said to become a citizen, and many teenagers have become complacent in recognizing the country’s freedoms.
