Especially for the Indy Minded, Welcome to the Election From Hell
The following author really captured what I sense, what I feel, what makes me despair of this election this year. My dear friends online, I confess I am far too independent for the comfort of many around me. This year more than ever I feel estranged from the parties. Less enthusiastic about the best, far more worried about the worst of the candidates this year than ever in the short 35 years I have been voting. I deeply regret ever having uttered the phrase “anything/anyone but Bush V Clinton”. Oh my goodness how much would I rather face that right now than what we have? Last time, and every election before that I had confidence we would be fine no matter who won. We would endure the worst scenario the election offered.
I’m one of those show me guys. Show me that 1/2 vote that I am said to incur should I decline to vote for either major candidate. For all the elections ever held in my view, somehow I have never ever witnessed a result that noted a half vote. Might that 1/2 be fictional? I do tend to think so.
What will I vote in June? Nothing presidential, that’s an internal matter for the parties all of which I fail to respect or admire enough to join. I’m not inclined to register just to ratfuck. I will vote the rest of the ballot here in California. What will I vote in November? Well since the primaries conclusion and alleged surprises await, any declaration of a vote for HRC or a pass or a write in would be premature. So far I only know I will be voting for recreational marijuana use.
Yet, be assured my politics are aligned in a chosen focus. Just an average schnook with no wealth to apply, no corporate or Hollywood mogul strings to pull, no silicon valley donors to lean on… I will be working against Donald Trump. I may anger friends and family on the right and the left. On the right for obvious reasons, on the gentle to middling left for not getting behind HRC to explicitly endorse and vote. Please forgive one mans lack of enthusiasm for Hilary Rodham Clinton by way of his work against Con Man Donald. I submit she will happily accept indirect help as avidly as direct.
Addition/Edit-
I get everyone mad at me. I want my guns to shoot and my gay friends to be happily married with kids. I enjoy my spirituality and respect yours as different as the practices maybe are. I am a fiscal conservative, but I will vote for that one initiative come November😳😳
Welcome to the election from hell.
Moms used to be my go-to group when clients needed information relevant to their product or service and I needed to hear some sanity, empathy and common sense. No longer. The session I hosted for CBS This Morning earlier this month with mostly moms was an utter train wreck. Many of the exchanges ended up on the cutting room floor because three, four, even five women talked at the same time with a critical tone usually reserved for their husbands. I entered the studio with excitement and anticipation, and left with a headache.
Today, our politics reside in an intellectual cul-de-sac. People only want to hear themselves pontificate, or listen to those who confirm, affirm, and validate. Proof? How many Democrats regularly listen to Fox News? How many Republicans frequently tune into MSNBC? Thirty years ago, voters rewarded politicians who spoke with vision and compassion about a “shining city on a hill,” “a thousand points of light,” or ”I feel your pain.” As recently as four years ago, we sought presidential candidates who were ultimately respectful, presidential, and statesmanlike.
