Good grief—the stupid, it burns. Why in the hell should a law that protects ALL children be considered “controversial” in any way?

When I was a kid—in Texas no less—it was a given that you had to be vaccinated. In fact you had to show proof of it in order for your child to be registered in public school. The same held true decades later, in the ’80s and ’90s when my son was in school. There were no religious exemptions that I’m aware of—you either vaccinated your child or s/he wasn’t allowed to be registered

When did Americans become so utterly bug nuts stupid? Have these people not seen what happens to children stricken with polio? Are they not aware of how serious diphtheria, measles, mumps and other diseases can be? Why does common sense need to be legislated now? Why should some idiot be allowed to endanger the health of every child in a school because of their religious beliefs??

GAH! It’s so infuriating.

Pardon my language, but fuck this noise. As the owner of a damaged immune system, (chronic illness, don’t you know), they should absolutely be forced to immunize. My life depends on so-called “herd immunity”, because there is a list of vaccines I can’t take. But, hey, if they want to wreck their lives, to keep their kids unvaccinated, welp, let them. How pathetic is this when something that is known to save lives, has parents in such a tizzy, they’re willing to move and homeschool so their precious snowflakes won’t have to go through with something every doctor and pediatrician recommends.

I hope they all go, for California’s sake. And the legislators in states which still allow such public danger and parental negligence, ought to be hounded out of public life.
These people seriously believe they have a right to endanger other children at public schools. Truly bizarre. And to suggest that this rather libertarian law means their rights are being violated, shows just how unattached to reality they are.

Having anti-vaxxers home-school their children doesn’t get the kids vaccinated. but it is still a better option than the kids going to a school and passing their germs around. Not the best outcome, but still a good one.
