U.S., Wyoming Teen Birth Rate Drops With Education, Birth Control
CHEYENNE – The number of teen births in the U.S. is the lowest it has been since at least 1940.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention included the information in the National Vital Statistics Report from Aug. 20, 2014. The report only looked back as far as 1940.
In 1940, the U.S. saw 304,004 recorded births to women ages 10-19. In 2013, that number was 277,749.
The highest number of teen births was in 1970 with 656,460.
The National Vital Statistics Report from June 2, 2016, shows a 64 percent decrease in births to teens ages 15-19 from 1991 to 2015.
The August 2014 report also shows the teen birth rate in Wyoming continues to decline through the years. The rate decreased by 36 percent between 1991 and 2012, according to the report.
