Clinton suggested Trump was hiding something and said he may have paid no federal income tax at all.
“That makes me smart,” Trump said.
“So if he’s paid zero, that means zero for troops, zero for vets, zero for schools or health,” Clinton said. Pressed on his five-year crusade to prove President Obama was born outside the U.S., Trump struggled to explain his recent change of heart.
“I think I did a great job and a great service not only for the country, but even for the president, in getting him to produce his birth certificate,” Trump said. “He tried to put the whole racist birther lie to bed. But it can’t be dismissed that easily,” Clinton said.
