Trump’s Muslim Ban Drives Away Allies
Tyler Scott is a veteran of the Iraq War:
With the stroke of President Donald Trump’s pen, the message of equality and goodwill evaporated. It doesn’t matter if the courts overrule the travel ban against seven Muslim countries, or if the administration changes course, or if every American abroad is able to reassure acquaintances that we don’t all agree. It may not be an outright Muslim ban, but it sends the message to the very people we need to continue the fight on our side that we don’t see them any differently than our common enemy…
Our current and future conflicts demand that the compact between the deployed and the foreign populace remains intact. Signaling to the Muslim world that we will discriminate based on religion and ethnicity shatters that agreement. It says we will treat them by the sins of their birth and not by their actions; that their lives are merely tools to be used and abandoned when no longer needed.
This order merely brings false hope and, while we insulate ourselves within our borders, we’ve galvanized a hostile movement around the world that finally has the missing component it’s needed to convince many reluctant Muslims that the America they have been told welcomes the good people of this Earth and stands up for them no longer means it.
Trump is both stupid and evil. Whatever you may think of them, President Bush, President Obama, and Secretary Clinton all knew that you can’t fight a war by making unnecessary enemies. America can’t just rely on military force, but diplomacy as well. Trump is dumb enough to believe he can use America to bully the world just like he bullies everyone in life. In doing so, he showed America to be petty, shallow, and undependable. Even if we get another Obama, or even a Bush, the damage is done. The local interpreters, informers, and supporters can no longer afford to trust us, no matter how much they may want to. They lose a safe haven and we lose valuable allies, that we’ll pay for in blood and treasure.
I would also like to add that this is Bannon’s goal- America against the world. Even if we kill his EO permanently, the damage is still done. Bannon’s no Machiavelli or Napoleon, but he can still hurt America in so many ways, which is why we need to get him away from his useful idiot. We can start by calling our senators and representatives to support H.R. 804. This bill would make sure the Director of National Intelligence and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff have permanent invitations to the National Security Council, and prevent purely political shitweasels like Bannon from holding a chair. We can also call the Senate Committee on Homeland Security at[no phone numbers allowed]. Tell them what we know about Bannon, and why he’s unfit.
