Human Rights and Justice Party-Platform Thread
Since it’s painfully obvious that the two major parties are beyond redemption, there seens to be a need to put together something that will actually act as a legitimate foundation to give both of the legacy parties a run for their money.
Ideally, the new party should target for a veto-proof majority for both the Congress and Senate for 2020. Crazy? Absolutely. Then again, who the hell ever thought Donald Trump would become the 45th President of the United States?
So, I’ll start with some of my own ideas here…..
Financial Policy:
(1) Re-instate Glass-Stegall and force the breakup of any institution of institutions that would be in violation of of Glass-Stegall
(2) Repeal Dodd-Frank, with the exception of keeping the Consumer Financial Protection Board (as specified in Dodd-Frank)
(3) Limit access of the Federal Reserve Discount Window to United States-domiciled firms only
(4) Limit the size of any commercial bank asset base to no more than 5% of Domestic GDP to reduce the risk to too-big-to-fail
(5) Increase manpower budget for SEC, FBI, IRS and Secret Service by 300% to pursue financial crimes
Marijuana Policy
(1) Order the DEA to de-schedule marijuana, and to re-deploy DEA resources to other illicit drug enforcement activities
(2) Increase the NIH and FDA budget to include funding for studies of using marijuana for medical conditions considered most likely to have commercial success
(3) Once marijuana has been de-scheduled, the DOJ will be asked to commute the sentences of individuals convicted and imprisoned for marijuana possession, and will also ask the states to engage the states to enforce the federal de-schedule and also ask the states to follow the federal communtation policy.
Prescription Drug Pricing Policy:
The law which prevents drug re-importation from other countries will be repealed.
Mandatory Arbitration Reform:
The Abolishment of Arbitration Act would be introduced to eliminate the one-sidendeness and unfairness of forced arbitration contracts on just about every major consumer agreement entered into.
Campaign Finance Reform:
The Citizens United decision would be replaced with a law that would require a 48-hour posting of any and all donations to any candidate by any individual and organization, to
the Federal Election Commission in a searchable database. Failure to make proper disclosures will result in fines, penalties. Repeated violations can result in bans up to and including lifetime bans.
Voting Rights and Integrity:
Due to state issues with voting access and questions on voting integrity, the Voting Integrity and Rights Act will require that all states, in order to secure the integrity of the actual vote, shall retire all electronic voting machines and use optically-scanable paper voting only.
For the purposes of the right to vote for federal offices, The Voting Integrity and Rights Act claims supremacy over state law in that individuals who have been convicted of a felony and has been released from prison and are no longer under federal or state jurisdiction, shall have their right to vote in federal elections restored. Furthermore, The Voting Integrity and Rights Act claims supremacy over states rights should a state deny a citizen their right to vote due to arbitrary and capricious restrictions placed by the state elections commission. A new voting rights review board will be established by the United States Department of Justice to review voting right rejections from affected citizens when their appeals have been exhausted at the state level.
Well, that’s my start - comments/suggestions/brickbats welcomed….
