Flag Observances for September
All persons and businesses are encouraged to fly the flag every day, but especially on the following days.
Monday, September 2: Victory over Japan in World War 2 Day.
Monday, September 2: Labor Day (Federal Holiday, first Monday of September)
Wednesday, September 11: Half-mast all day, Patriot Day (marks the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Shanksville, Penna)
Tuesday, September 17: Constitution Day (marks the day the Confederation Congress adopted the US Constitution in 1787, sending it to the states for ratification).
Friday, September 20: National POW/MIA Recognition Day (third Friday of September). The POW/MIA flag is always permitted to fly from government buildings and grounds.
Sunday, September 29 (last Sunday in September): Gold Star Mothers and Families Day (honours parents, children, and siblings who lost a family member in combat while in the US Armed Forces). The Gold Star Family flag may be flown on all government buildings and grounds on this day.
