The tarp is only to keep the rain out. The rafters are to ensure the water drains off the tarp. If it all got really soaked, we’d have some major headaches.
Last Wednesday brought some strong winds that lasted through the weekend. On Thursday, the blue tarp started to shred in spots where it chafed on the rafters (even though we put cloth bumpers over the pointy parts). By dinner time we had a problem. It was gonna come apart and even with no rain in the forecast, we had to do something just in case. So in the dark we took the original, smaller tarp off the dwindling sand pile and laid it over the big one. It lasted till Sunday when we made some wholesale changes, most of which are boring and you don’t care. It now looks like this and should work well enough:
After that, we pounded down the sand we dumped in last week. Yeah, a lot of work and it still doesn’t look like much.
The thing is, this is the longest, most labor intensive part of the project. Essentially filling in a pool with sandbags and sand.
We then dumped in about 20 more wheelbarrows. And it looks like…well just like it did at the end of last week.
Here are the before and after:
While they may look similar, there is way more sand in the second picture. We know. We put it there.
