Of note, fraudulent studies are not the sole problem of Russia. It is a worldwide problem.

The most famous in recent times is the disgraced study by Dr. Andrew Wakefield in The Lancet, allegedly linking the MMR vaccine to autism and other problems. When exposed as a fraud, The Lancet retraced that article (the only article they have ever retracted over fraud allegations).

Harvard recently called for retraction of a number of studies by a cardiologist, alleging fraud and falsified data.

A Cornell food researcher had fifteen studies retracted.

The downside of this is anti-science nutbars can use such examples of these to claim science is fraudulent or at least “just an opinion.”

The proof that is not so is these frauds and fabrications were caught by other scientists checking the work in journals, including the large Russian fraud now uncovered.

Peer review can be corrupted, but academic articles will be checked by thousands after they are published. A fraud perpetrated on the scientific community will be exposed and corrected (something alternative science methods or religions cannot claim on their behalf).

They will never learn that science doesn’t give a damn about your opinion
