A wise man once said “90 percent of x is shit, but the remaining 10 percent is pure gold. In this life we have to wade through the shit to find the gold.” (notably attributed to a few SF writers, the most prominent being Isaac Asimov.) It’s easy to let the bile anger and despair drive you to share the shit, but it’s better to find the rare gold and share it. Try that, it’s quite a challenge. Oh yeah, you could start your own site/blog/podcast or whatever. You have a knack for snark, you’d probably do well.

Deep tech skills, a talent for snark, a feel for U.S. politics, wide antennae at the intersection of technology, culture and mass-media… A formidable toolkit that sounds pretty dang useful in the crisis we’re in.

Volunteer for the Dems at a state or national level? Help state-level candidates who have fewer resources with effective websites, messaging and social media strategies? If you can find a way to amplify several good candidates, it’ll help. Census year, we’re going to need the statehouses as well as the Senate and the House. Blog or podcast as well, perhaps, to counter the smog of disinformation from the rodent copulators and the horse-race horse hockey from the pundits.

Need to reach the casual voters and the tired ones, craft messages that resonate at the probably less-than-rational level where they’ll make their choices. Your comms skillset sure can’t hurt, if your time and strength allow.

Oops, posted this in the wrong thread! But I was also going to say that if you ever do start your own blog, I’d be happy to help promote it if you cross-post here at LGF. Your posts here have been uniformly great.

re: #1 Thanos

So my comment came off less encouraging than it should have been, you do have the skills, it’s not that hard to start a blog, and even if it never goes anywhere you will learn and grow from it. So go do it. Charles uses Hosting Matters as do I, they usually have some great packages and can set you up with wordpress relatively easily.

I hope you’ll stick around, I value your commentary.

As for burn out on right-wing politics, an alternative might be just to pull back a while and do some needed internal housecleaning before reëntering the fray. Others can take up the burden.

We have always had conservatives in this world and always will. The push is endless to prevent them dragging us back to the Dark Ages.
