#Thegreatpoolpondconversion - 200223
Fell a bit behind with the updates.
Feb 23 was another week to rest and gather strength as we wait (waited) for the liner.
There’s not much to do.
We’ve been bailing every day, multiple times. It’s obvious we’re nearer to the bottom and there’s less overall water. Even though, there’s still quite a lot. The sides of the well are starting to seriously erode. The reasons why don’t matter. It’s just a race against time - do we run out of water before something structural caves in.
Finished painting the deck parts that no one’s ever gonna see. It was easier to use up the wrong color paint than to try and dispose of it as hazardous waste. So it had some use.
Down the line, after we fill the pond with water we have to wait for it to settle before introducing fish. We’re guessing about 3 months. During that time we’ll be building some raised planting beds at the deck edges. One bed will be all butterfly weed (monarch). We’ve got about 100 or so seedlings going right now. We transplanted some of them to bigger pots.
We’re also planting wildflowers out in the field. And we’re trying two methods. One is to grow the seeds indoors (like the butterfly weed). We started off a bunch of seeds and they are growing after 2 days. The other method is to mix lots of seeds in with the dirt in patches and see what happens. That’ll be in a few weeks when the next package of seeds arrives.
Yeah, all in all a boring week.
