Empty shelves like that are not a sign of a calm, educated and reassured populace.

Unreal….there’s gonna be some fat/fatter sumbitches after all this!

Yep.

I was at the Hagarstown (Md) Aldi’s and Lidl Saturday afternoon and they looked about like that. The grocery folks were working like mad to restock stuff unsuccessfully. There were a bunch of customers who looked like they were already in rough economic shape and that this crisis was going to send them into deeper trouble.

Heading home, I stopped at the local Walmart. The store restocking crews were out earlier than normal and also working hard. The shelves again resembled your pictures as well. I went out of my way to thank every stock person I saw. It paid off. One of them helped me get two cans of chicken noodle soup that he had not had a chance to shelve yet.

Since it was on the way home, I also stopped at the Wegman’s Grocery store in Fairfax. The doors were locked and then I saw the sign that they had scaled back open hours at the store.

It seems to me that there are indeed food and supplies in the supply chain. And the supplies are coming in. But it is not possible to keep it on the shelves right now. Lots of folks are increasing the supplies they have at home from a few days to a few weeks. There is another group panic buying. And there is a third group hoarding in order to try and make a profit.

It reminds me of the idiots who bought up pallets of ammunition back in 2009 when Obama came in. One guy I talked to said he had 16 pallets of centerfire ammunition in his garage. Besides the tens of thousands of dollars wasted on that ammunition, that is a fire hazard. I doubt that, 12 years later, that guy has shot a significant part of the ammo that he purchased.

If you have an Asian mart in your area, try there. People are trying to avoid those for xenophobic reasons, and the ones here are still well stocked. In our area we can still find food, but it’s the upper end high priced variety only, forget about hamburger, if you want to eat beef you are paying north of 5 dollars per pound.

The closest one to me is about 25 miles away. Hopefully, by the time I need something, things will have calmed down a bit on the hoarding front.

The difference with socialist hellholes is that in those the shelves remain that way.
