#Thegreatpoolpondconversion - 200913
In all our spare time, we’ve been working on a small side project since probably last August.
We pulled out the scalloped border, sifted out all the rocks, installed the wood border and put in some sod.
Saturday we put the vase in place.
Before and after:
Sunday was all powerwashing and some more prep for the first raised bed.
Nothing exciting to photograph, but don’t panic.
Because on Tuesday we got fish.
3 Comet Goldfish
1 larger Comet
3 Plecostomuses (Plecostomi?)
We’ll wait a month and see what happens before adding on more fish and plants.
We aren’t naming the fish.
Not because there’s birds and you dont name pets. Or food.
We built caves and tunnels, and there are some spots too deep for anything but a migrant cormorant.
So a fighting chance in our microcosm of MofA’s Wild Kingdom.
Besides, fish can be predators too, as these seem to have already learned.
We also definitely have two resident frogs. How do we know? Two ways.
First, I got back from a run at 6AM (dont ask). I was walking on the deck, totally quiet and still at that hour.
Dark and I had turned off my light. Something stirred and jumped into the water. Scared me pretty good.
Light back on and I saw the two frogs.
The second way is there’s an awful lot of frog crap all over the place now…
