I Built a Thing
Okay lizards…here’s what I did this last week.
Decided to put a greenhouse in the backyard because tomatoes don’t do well in the summer fog…also, thanks to Covid we’ve become far more self contained so it seemed a natural progesssion.
First, I needed a spot - decided the section of lawn that got the least sun and hence had the biggest dirt-to-grass ratio made the most sense.
This was before I vanquished the gophers and reclaimed the yard…but back where that rotted fence is (which blew down and I had to replace) is where I put the thing.
My wife said to just pay Manuel to do the labor, but I pay him enough for rebuilding my fence after a storm and thought I could do this myself…so I did.
Fortunately, our coastal soil is soft as hell and even a lazy bastard like me could clear a 7x5 area of the top 4 inches fairly easily.
So, 12 bags of gravel and a few 2x4s later, I had a bed to put it on.
The kit arrived three days later and I managed to put it together by myself using a screwdriver and a 10mm wrench head on a Dewalt set to the lightest setting so It wouldn’t tork the metal and plastic.
Once the base was up and I had the risers, the plastic panels slid in and stabelized the whole thing.
Oh, and can you believe the goddamn thing was level all the way around?
Got the roof up except for the folding panel and the front door after my calls on Tuesday.
Still got a couple of rain gutters to put on the corners, but I don’t care about that crap. Anchored it with six big tent stakes (see the orange bit at the bottom).
Whole thing only weighs 67lbs. So I’ll probably anchor it some more later but this is good enough for now.
