We thought we were done with some of this… but there’s more rock washing and hauling.
And there’s gonna be more pebble washing and top soil hauling.
Saturday we washed the ton of rocks delivered a few weeks ago.
We left them all on the ground and got through it in about an hour. Different technique.
Then we started moving some of them to the deck.
With a flat tire on the lawn tractor, we used a hand truck and both of us acted as the mule team.
We also started draining the pond for Sundays activities.
Partially to remove some of the algae. Partially because it’s easier to work standing in 6” of water than 2 feet.
After installing the water wheel we decided on a lower normal water level.
That left a lot of the upper liner wall exposed.
So we bought this rock to cover it up.
Here’s some of the before:
We were also going to do some other seascaping at the same time on the flat part of the shelf.
Sunday, before we started with the wall, we spent 30 minutes huffing, cursing and groaning and got the front tractor tire off the hub.
The we had some success with the wall:
But we didn’t have any of the pebbles ready and some other stuff.
So we’ll plan it out a bit better, divide the pond into sections, drain it several times over several weekends, and work on only one section at a time.
Tuesday at 7am we got a delivery of 7,500 pounds (3.65 tons, if you’re following) of top soil.
This is hopefully the last large delivery of anything we’ll need.
We got bags instead of a dump truck because at this stage, bags are easier to wrangle compared to shoveling, etc., even with the plastic bag waste.
We’ll be using the dirt to:
- top off the two existing beds that settled.
- building the final raised bed and trellis
- filling in a non-raised bed in the front of the house
Some Duckweed and Large Leaf Sensitive Fern are on the way.
