Yes, we are tired. Our bodies are not so happy or enthusiastic any more.
We need a rest.
It’s amazing that almost every sunday for 3 years there was no rain, no excuse to not accomplish something strenuous.
Now the heavy lifting is almost done… and we can’t wait.
We were going to build our own floating island.
Something like this or this.
Then we found someone already did, and we are too tired to reinvent the wheel.
So we went to beemats.com
On Saturday we assembled ours and launched it
We are still running a small pump we installed back in January when we were having bilge pump problems.
So we set it into one of the holes (the lower right).
The island floats around with the wind and the electric feeder cord (12v) sort of tethers it.
After that we planted five Coontie palms in the front, just about finishing off that bed.
Zamia integrifolia or Zamia floridana - apparently, there’s a fight over the name.
Finally we moved another 10 bags of dirt into the cribs and called it a day.
Sunday we finished hauling and hoeing dirt - for now.
We built the trellis rails.
Then transplanted the two jasmines that were starting to come out the bottoms of the pots.
We still need to cut the ties to the old lattice, remove them and reattach the vines to the new frame.
There’s a bit more to build here - more slats to screen in the a/c on the right, with some shelving behind.
And then more dirt for the nursery bed, and finally a removable screen cover.
Thanks to the remnants of not-hurricanes Fred and Grace, the temps were down and there was no sun, so both were single shirt days.
