Mrs Dangerman - brilliant, clever, sneaky
mrsdm is a peach.
for about the last month and unbeknownst to me, she’s been working on a birthday present for me. she did it right under my nose. in fact, several times she enlisted me directly and I was clueless.
this is her describing it to her mom:
Here’s the process for making the barn door curtain:
1. It’s called a noren, which is a japanese word, and looks like this
2. Once I picked the artwork, i needed to project it on the wall, so I made a projector out of 2 shoeboxes and a magnifying glass. I brought the image up on the phone and positioned it in the box such that the focus was somewhat decent.
3. Then I traced it onto the canvas, which i had already hemmed all around, with a channel at the top, and taped to the bathroom wall. I had to trace it upside-down, since the projector flips everything, and I couldn’t get my phone to stop making it right-side up.
4. then i set up the ironing board in my office to do the painting with black tempera. I got it half way done one day while danger was at physical therapy, and hung it to dry in my bathtub (where he’d never look).
5. Then I hung it in the barn window when he was out, and let him discover it when he returned.
there will be 2 more for a set of 3 windows.
