Half-Staff Notice: Death of Madeleine Albright
President Joe Biden has ordered the US Flag to half-staff until March 27, 2022 as a mark of respect for the life of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
Albright’s family fled Russian persecution in 1948. Madeliene Albright became a US citizen in the Fifties, and dedicated her life to the US Foreign Service.
She was appointed to the position of Secretary of State by President Bill Clinton, becoming the first woman to serve in the position.
The Presidential Proclamation is quite long. Below is a link to the White House with the text of the proclamation.
For flags which cannot be lowered, such as a flag on a fixed staff or gaff, the American Legion recommends affixing a black ribbon the length of the flag and the width of one stripe.
For flags displayed flat such as a wall, they recommend a black bow affixed to the centre of the flag, or three bows across the top.
