Muslim guerrillas, backed by al-Qaida-linked militants, attacked a military detachment and reinforcement troops in the southern Philippines in a clash that left two rebels dead and 10 marines wounded.
The fighting between the Filipino marines and Moro Islamic Liberation Front guerrillas on Basilan island erupted after dawn Sunday amid an ongoing withdrawal of Malaysian peacekeepers, officials said.
