I must admit, the timing of this “award” is rather amusingly fortuitous, because it was just on Friday that Andrew Wakefield published a tirade on the antivaccine crank blog Age of Autism that is just as misguided, wrong-headed, and inept as anything that Mike Adams, or Teresa Conrick has written entitled Patterns In Chaos: Child Psychiatry, Violence and Autism. In fact, it sounds very much like the anti-psychiatry rants recently written in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, CT by a deranged gunman named Adam Lanza that I deconstructed last week.
Like Conrick, Wakefield begins by correctly countering the misinformation rampant in the media in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting that Lanza had Asperger’s syndrome and correctly asserting that there is no good evidence of a link between autism or autism spectrum disorders and an increased propensity for violence and mass murder. Unfortunately, Wakefield then does what antivaccinationists do so well and proposes an alternate explanation that involves the same confusion of correlation with causation that Mike Adams and Teresa Conrick fell for, tying them to vaccines:
And for those at risk - young people receiving off-license mind-bending drugs, an urgent overview of individual indication, efficacy, compliance, and adverse effects must be undertaken, funded by the relevant players in the pharmaceutical industry and conducted independently of any other input from them.
Tragically, predictably, there will be more events like that at Sandy Hook Elementary. The vast number of individuals with developmental disorders presages such events. This is not because of their diagnosis, per se, but rather I would suggest, because they may be at increased risk for adverse reactions (due to pre-existing conditions) and are being inappropriately medicated with drugs for which violence is a recognized adverse reaction. These drugs are being prescribed by a “mainstream” medical system that, through clinical neglect, has run dry on alternative treatments for autism spectrum disorders while enjoying Parma’s inducements way too much to look for any.
My opinion is neither mine alone, nor is it new. In attempting to make sense of the “senseless” it offers both tangible reasons and approaches to prevention. It is not enough that our hearts break for those affected; we are compelled to act. Perhaps inevitably, I am left with a mental image of Pharma lobbyists scaling Capitol Hill like an army of Orcs closing on Helm’s Deep. It’s a hideous sight.
There are a number of things we think we know about Adam Lanza, the Newtown, Connecticut 20-year-old, who last Friday murdered his mother, then shot his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School and killed 20 first-graders and six adults before turning a gun on himself.
We’ve been told, by a former classmate, that he was “weird.” We’ve been told, by a family friend, that he played a lot of violent video games. And we’ve also been told by such sources that he had a “developmental disorder,” that some say was Asperger’s Syndrome.
From this, a narrative has emerged of a troubled young man, induced into violence by his preferred choice of media, and failed by an inadequate mental health system. This narrative has caught on so successfully that, as of Wednesday, a Gallup poll found far more Americans believing that events like the Newtown tragedy could be avoided through increased federal spending on mental health screening and services than by banning the sale of assault weapons.
And yet, in truth, we have virtually no hard facts to back up this storyline.
Believe it or not, the NRA does not share in the blame.

Hat tip: Liberals Unite
This has to be a joke. I mean, who says shit like this???
Earlier this week, WorldNetDaily columnist and regular Fox News guest Erik Rush tweeted a video arguing that President Obama orchestrated the Sandy Hook and Aurora, Colorado shootings in order to cover-up a massive government scandal, forcibly disarm Americans, put people in concentration camps and start a civil war. Of course the conspiracy theory is complete nonsense, but Rush doesn’t think so.
Today in WND, Rush effectively suggested that people should begin an armed revolt against the government:
In an address advertised as intending to console residents of Newtown on Dec. 16 (I suppose one could call it a ‘consolation address’), President Obama furtively telegraphed his intention to advance gun-control legislation through more of his subtle tyranny. Like so many instances in the past, Obama peremptorily (though erroneously) circumscribed the problem, then alluded to more ‘fundamental transformation’ being required to solve it, whether this involves the wholesale subordination of industrial sectors to the government, unconstitutional legislation, or dark-of-the-night, unpublicized executive orders.
In Obamaspeak, ‘We have to change’ simply means we must be willing to pitch the Constitution, capitalism, notions of liberty and traditional values as Obama sees fit. In an effort to squeeze as much popular political capital from the Sandy Hook tragedy as possible, the administration sent an email late Monday directing supporters to the president’s weekend speech online, in which he promised to take action to prevent mass shootings.
It is of the utmost importance that Americans become aware of the dedicated efforts that are being made to transform us from citizens into subjects, and that we are already at war. This is a war we have not seen the likes of previously and that will challenge notions of war for centuries to come. Even if we did not have the Second Amendment to stand on, I would still support gun rights, because guns are not the issue – power is. Next will come edged weapons control, then blunt weapons control, then compulsory periodic assessments of citizens by government psychologists.
I suppose suggesting that we shoot them wouldn’t be taken very well – although that is precisely what it came down to 236 years ago.
Barton insisted that the Founders called the Second Amendment “the biblical right of self defense” and crafted it to ensure that citizens could protect themselves again any and all threats, including the government, with equal firepower.
In Barton’s view, whatever weapons the government possesses must also be available to the population at large because the citizens might one day need to resist the government, so this principle of “equal power … has got to control the gun control debate”:
Finding biblical meaning in any part of the Constitution is nothing new for Barton. In fact, he has repeatedly made false claims that the US Consitution contains several direct quotations from the Bible.
Well that was quick. So much for “today’s not the day to discuss gun control”.
Never let a good crisis go to waste.
I would like to hear them explain how the Mexi drug cartels got a hold of more than 2,000 guns as part of Barry and Eric’s Fast & Furious operation. They ignore that, but exploit this. Satan is proud of his minions in the Obama Nation.
Agreed. Sadly, it’s hard to tell whether Obama’s otherwise appropriate words are sincere. A bit too much display of emotion - doesn’t look quite real. Brushing away crocodile tears so he can grab our guns?
As long as the “totalitarian freaks” are in charge of the schools, that will never happen. My retired school teacher, Obamaton brother would have crapped his pants if he had to hold a gun let alone look at one…He actually told me that I needed to be absolutely sure that an intruder was going to harm me before I shot him in defense of my family and myself… These people are crazy children. They can’t accept that people would do what they wouldn’t do. That’s where they get the ‘negotiate with terrorists’ meme and the Co-Exist! bumper stickers. Was someone in the Obama camp instrumental here? I wouldn’t be surprised if they were. Notice that there isn’t much info on him…shades of the Batman Rising shooter—the guy who didn’t look like himself and didn’t act alone. That was all hushed up too.
Gun control will lead to the next revolution which is brewing under the surface.
Obama could be heard mumbling “Yessssssss!” under his breath when he saw the headlines….Next thing out of his mouth was a pre-prepared treatise on gun control.
To bad some adult there wasn’t carrying and trained in firearms. It may have prevented some of the deaths that occurred. As it was, there was no chance at all. Just none. Evil definitely exists as demonstrated today.
Where is the Outrage from Obama for Democrats and Union Goons calling for Violence?
Democrats are on record stating that “There will be blood, there will be repercussions”
Union Members Thugs are on record calling for a Civil War in the United States of America.
Obama, Obama, Obama …. Your willingness to use every gun-related incident (including the ones you are creating) to push your fascist agenda to DISMANTLE the Constitution and DISARM the People is going to backfire. ~ I bet you worked on that ‘one tear’ show in the front of the mirror b4 taking the podium.
We see what you did with gun-running to Mexico and we now know that you are disarming our troops in the Middle East while arming others who would do them harm.
Enough is enough. We the People do not support your policies and we want our representative government back.
So a photo op of the slippery snake, wiping his crocodile tears with his middle finger, For all the world to see. Yes obama, You are becoming transparant after all.
Breitbart’s Joel Pollack asks the question on the minds of wingnuts everywhere:
He wiped away a tear. I wept with him. And then… that.
How are we meant to interpret that statement?
Must we accept Obama’s preferred response—gun control—regardless of the merits of the policy?
Is this another serious crisis the Obama administration will refuse to waste?
Does every problem have a government solution?
“That” was this statement from President Obama:
“We’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this regardless of the politics.”
Forehead, meet wall.
