Oily Brit to Testify for UN Probe?

This report at the New York Post seems a bit overstated (I’m not sure Galloway really did say he was going to testify), but it sure would be great theater: Oily Brit to Testify for UN Probe. (Hat tip: lawhawk.)

May 13, 2005 — WASHINGTON — Controversial British Parliament member George Galloway yesterday accepted a Senate panel’s invitation to testify about his alleged role in the U.N. oil-for-food scandal, setting the stage for a potentially explosive showdown with congressional investigators.

After a report that he accepted sweetheart oil deals from Saddam Hussein, the anti-war lawmakeraccepted a dare from the Senate Permanent Subcommittee to fly to Washington to testify on Tuesday. Galloway, speaking on the BBC, denied a recent subcommittee’s report that he engaged in sleazy oil deals with Saddam’s regime and called the Senate panel “lickspittle Republicans.” He said he will “take them on in their own lion’s den.”

A spokesman for the subcommittee said it has received no official word that Galloway will indeed testify.
