Breaking: Progressive Community Laughs at Terror Threat

Thu, Oct 6, 2005 at 7:41:44 pm

Crooks and Liars says:

I hope this pans out to be nothing and you know I’m not into conspiracy theories, but isn’t it interesting after the news breaks on Rove that we have another terror alert. Tom Ridge admitted that he had been pressured by the CIA to raise the threat level  without sufficient cause in the past. I’m just saying.

John says that CNN’s Jeanne Meserve  said Homeland Security is not aware of any credible or specific threat against NYC Transit.

MetaFilter says:

On the same day as Bush’s speech, no less. That sh*t is uncanny.

Right in the article it says

“While the police department is taking the threat seriously, it is also urging the public not to be alarmed because – while the source is credible – the information has not been verified.”

Why the f*ck would you print something if it has not been verified. simply to alarm people.

Why of course the people don’t want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don’t want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

— Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

Nice followup to GW’s speech.

At Daily Kos they’re doing their best to ignore it.

Dude! Whaddaya mean there were like, bombings in the London subways in July? No way!
