Insane paranoid fantasies gush out of the right wing like water from a firehose, and today Jim Hoft, the legendary dumbest man on the Internet, has received another link from Drudge Report for spreading a fear-mongering lie about the Veteran's Administration:
This must be Barack Obama's way of thanking our veterans for serving.
US veterans are receiving letters from the government informing them that they are disabled and not allowed to own, purchase or possess a firearm. If the veteran does decide to purchase a firearm he will by fined, imprisoned or both.
Oddly enough, Hoft left out a rather important piece of information: this provision only applies to veterans who are found to be mentally ill, and whose veteran's benefits have been legally placed in a guardianship due to incompetence. Hoft phrased his idiotic semi-literate post in a way that deliberately misleads his audience into thinking this rule is being arbitrarily applied to all veterans -- and that is simply false.
So this puts Hoft and his knuckle-dragging followers in the lovely position of standing up for the gun ownership rights of people who are seriously mentally ill. And he's being rewarded for it with a link from Drudge Report, generating hundreds of thousands of visits to his site.
By now, of course, this fake story has spread throughout the wingnut blogosphere, as all such stories do. Just another lie for the right wing base, now turned into an article of faith that will be repeated eternally, deception without end, amen.
