The Somalia-based Al Qaeda spinoff group Al Shabaab launched a terrorist attack today in Kenya, in an upscale shopping mall that was holding a children's day event, killing at least 30 people including several children: 30 Killed in Nairobi Mall Attack; Al-Shabaab Claims Responsibility.

(CNN) -- The death toll grew to 30 people in Saturday's attack by gunmen on an upscale shopping mall in the Kenyan capital, leading to a fierce gunbattle with police and a hostage standoff, authorities said.

Several hours after the attack, Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked militant group based in Somalia, claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.

"The Mujahideen entered #WestgateMall today at around noon and are still inside the mall," the Islamic extremist group said on its Twitter account.

Yes, you read that last sentence correctly -- Al Shabaab has a Twitter account that they use to boast about committing mass murder of innocent people, and it's been active for almost two years, since December 2011.

Seems like a pretty clear violation of The Twitter Rules, not to mention simple human decency. Hello, Twitter? WTF?

UPDATE at 9/21/13 3:02:06 pm

The Al Shabaab Twitter account has now been suspended.
