Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi is winning acclaim throughout the blogosphere as a moderate Muslim who stands for human rights and feminism.
Uh ... maybe not.
Today the first crack appears in her facade, in remarks published at the Radio Farda web site; Ebadi is no friend of the United States or Israel, which explains a lot about why she was chosen by the Nobel Committee. (Hat tip: paul.)
In her press conference, which was carried live by Radio Farda, she also spoke out against rights abuses around the world, taking aim at the US occupation of Iraq and describing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as an unequal war of “stones against weapons.”
