I’ll leave you all with a creationism update.

It too just happens to mention Iowa.

Even more so, GOP politicians and… tah dah - Sharron Angle! (She’s baaaackkk???)

Nevada Republican to attend film release

Sharron Angle, the tea party-backed candidate who mounted a hard-fought campaign against U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid last fall, will attend the national premiere in Johnston of a film that highlights the intersection of faith and science.

The Iowa Christian Alliance Education Fund and the Patriots Fund are hosting the nationwide release of “The Genesis Code” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carmike Wynnsong 16 Cinema.

Angle, a former Nevada assemblywoman, will join well-known Iowa Republicans at the screening, including Steve Scheffler of the Iowa Christian Alliance and Kim Lehman of the John Paul II Stem Cell Research Institute, both members of the Republican National Committee.

The film explores such issues as the battle between science and faith, religious discrimination against Christians on college campuses, and the right to life, according to a news release.

The film, which had a $5 million budget, stars former GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson as well as Academy Award winners Ernest Borgnine and Louise Fletcher.

The film had a limited release last fall in the town in which it was shot (in Michigan), and now looks to go nationwide. The IMDB entry is pretty thin on reviews, but reading them leaves one with a distinct impression that this movie will be no better than “Expelled” when it comes to science. There are no official reviews at RottenTomatoes, but the few user reviews there are mostly glowing and seem to be by the same people who wrote the positive ones at IMDB.

Here’s the trailer:

It was made by an explicitly Christian organization and is intended for evangelism and apologetics.

I’m not clear about the co-sponsor of the event “Patriots Fund”, but I believe it is the one based in Michigan started last year to raise unlimited funds for political purposes, and is headquartered in Grand Rapids, from where the movie originates.

As for Ms. Angle’s involvement, here is what Jeremey Jacobs at the National Journal had to say about it:

Angle’s trip comes out of the blue and doesn’t mean she’s running for the White House. But, as they say, no politician visits Iowa on a whim.

What say a Huckabee-Angle ticket for 2012, now that Esther’s chances seem to be in the tank? Remember, the Christian group that is hoping to control the Iowa GOP caucuses and is leading the first visits by candidates to Iowa is run by Mr. Vander Plaats, who was Huckabee’s Iowa campaign manager in 2008.

The religious right is out to make sure the Iowa caucuses go the way they want, and they’re working through multiple channels to do it, and thus to dictate the GOP candidate selection for 2012.
