Trying to sort out some logic

Well there is the other reason, that you have yet to see a full examination of all relevant evidence and therefore think it inadvisable to jump to conclusions. Which is absolutely not the same as supporting the police officer’s version. In fact it is a mistake to assert that there is a “police version” as opposed to a version offered by the officer in question. Has the police department adopted the officer’s version as their position on what happened? No. Nor has the prosecutor who is submitting the information to a sitting grand jury for their judgement.

Now as to your tea party question, I think that betrays a lack of knowledge about just exactly who qualifies as a tea partier. I think you are assuming a uniformity of belief that is completely unjustified. Especially when it comes to self identifying ideological positions. I know plenty of people who call themselves progressives who believe all sorts of crazy crap too, like liberal immigration policies are a plot by evil oligarchs to suppress wages. Almost no one calls themselves tea partiers today. Do you think that is because they changed ideological positions? Or they just abandoned the name?
