The couple should have known this all along. I will state that I am a Catholic, though not very good at it. Sometimes I just don’t follow along. In this case however, the policy of the Church is quite clear and by trying to push the couple’s wishes ‘to prevent further pregnancies’ goes directly against the teachings and philosophy of Catholic Church..
Their doctor, if he was on staff, would/should have known this and most likely told the couple about the laws of this Catholic hospital.
If the couple are practicing Catholics then they would not have even requested this. I believe that this is a case of ‘pro-choice’, delving into areas where we will surely lose ground. They could easily had the c section someplace where they would not have put the Church and hospital in undeserved negative light.
