I really hope this isn’t a repeat of 2002-2003 when the military build up to the Iraq war (part deux) was happening. You know, when we were giving ultimatums for actions that we never truly expected to occur. In retrospect it was a foregone conclusion that we were going to invade, months before Bush demanded Saddam give up his carte blanche power and volunarily exile himself. There was never any expectations that he would leave, and the military already knew they would be invading as they amassed in Kuwait, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. Perhaps the very act of amassing troops determined the conflict. Perhaps the momentum of the Military Industrial Complex was too much pressure to stop war. Or perhaps Bush and his team of chicken hawks were ‘determined to attack inside Iraq’ from the beginning. Whatever the case, I fear we are in the same position now…
