Apparently CBS was conned into including a forgery, but the Bush story didn’t depend on the (seemingly) forged letter - it was a minor and late addition. And anyway, while the supposed writer had died, his secretary from that time told CBS said that the letter did accurately represent his views about Bush’s non-service.

So yes, Rather is correct in saying he reported a true story.

In the quote above, Rather didn’t say anything about the dubious letter, despite Mich-again’s bogus headline.
