Republicans would like to pretend that Reagan was actually their party’s last president. Remember back in 2008 neither Bush nor Cheney attended, and it wasn’t like the McCain people had any problem with that. Truth is that when you have a 25% approval rating for 3 years, even your own party wants to forget about you.
