I don’t have a quibble with the outcome, but the judge’s reasoning (“viewpoint discrimination”) seems absurd, for the simple reason that it suggests that if the state offers any viewpoint, then it has to offer every viewpoint, even ones that run contrary to the public good. Also I just don’t see license plates as a venue for private speech (which is what the judge found in his ruling).
