I’m not thrilled with the punishment, in that it is both too little and too much. I’d like to see them spend longer in jail (or juvie, or whatever), but I’m not sure I like the lifetime as a registered sex offender. If I understand correctly, they won’t be able to live near schools, parks, etc., which means pretty much anywhere, get a decent job, or live anything approaching a normal life. Ever.

As bad as their offense was, I don’t think that is a reasonable response. They aren’t adults. They lived in a culture that said what they did was OK. The people around them who enabled the crime aren’t going to be punished at all.
