Austin is, at least in Texas standards, notoriously liberal. it is also home to people that are better educated than average Texans. And it is, like he said, a center for new business. Is there a correlation?

Another fact of note, Texans didn’t “build this place”. Austin was famously home to a government sponsored high technology consortium called “SEMATECH” started in 1986.
